Outdoor tiles from Livenza Granito are engineered to withstand the full range of outdoor conditions — frost, rain, UV exposure, and heavy foot traffic — while maintaining their aesthetic appeal year after year. Our outdoor tile range features porcelain tiles with water absorption below 0.5% (frost-resistant), anti-slip surface ratings of R10 to R11, UV-stable colours that do not fade in sunlight, and breaking strength exceeding 1800N for durability on outdoor substrates. Available in 600x600mm and 600x1200mm, they are ideal for terraces, balconies, garden paths, pool surrounds, and driveways.

Key Advantages

Frost Resistant

Water absorption < 0.5% means water cannot penetrate the tile body — no freeze-thaw cracking even in harsh winter conditions.

UV Stable

Outdoor tile colours are UV-stable — they will not fade, bleach, or discolour with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

R10/R11 Anti-Slip

Our outdoor tiles are rated R10 (general outdoor use) and R11 (slopes, pool surrounds, wet areas) for maximum safety.

Thermal Shock Resistant

Tested for thermal shock resistance — outdoor tiles withstand the temperature extremes of hot summers and cold winters without cracking.

Pool Surround Safe

R11-rated tiles are specifically suitable for pool surrounds and wet outdoor areas where maximum slip resistance is critical.

Low Maintenance

Unlike natural stone, outdoor porcelain tiles require no sealing, no annual treatment — just occasional pressure washing to keep them clean.

What Makes a Tile Suitable for Outdoor Use?

Not all tiles are suitable for outdoor use. The key technical requirements for outdoor tiles are: Frost resistance — tiles must have water absorption below 0.5% to prevent water from penetrating the tile body and causing cracking during freeze-thaw cycles. Slip resistance — outdoor tiles must achieve a minimum R10 anti-slip rating (DIN 51130), with R11 recommended for areas exposed to rain or near water. UV stability — tile colours must not fade or change with prolonged sun exposure. Breaking strength — outdoor tiles must withstand the loads of outdoor furniture, foot traffic, and in some cases, vehicular traffic.

All Livenza Granito outdoor tiles meet these requirements. Our outdoor range is specifically selected from our porcelain production for its frost resistance, anti-slip surface treatment, and UV-stable colour formulations.

Outdoor Tile Applications

Our outdoor tiles are suitable for a wide range of exterior applications: Terraces and balconies — where a seamless indoor-outdoor aesthetic is desired, using the same or complementary tile design as the interior floor; Garden paths and patios — where durability and natural aesthetics are priorities; Pool surrounds — where anti-slip safety and water resistance are essential; Driveways and parking areas — where our 20mm thick outdoor pavers provide the strength to withstand vehicular loads; and Commercial outdoor spaces — restaurant terraces, hotel pool decks, and public plazas.

Buying & Installation Tips

Always specify frost-resistant tiles for outdoor use — standard ceramic tiles will crack in freezing temperatures.
For pool surrounds and sloped areas, use R11-rated tiles — R10 is the minimum for general outdoor use.
Lay outdoor tiles with a slight slope (1–2%) for drainage — standing water accelerates staining and algae growth.
Use a flexible, weather-resistant tile adhesive (C2F or C2TE) for outdoor installations — standard adhesive will fail.
Leave wider expansion joints (6–8mm) for outdoor tiles to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction.
For terraces, use the same tile design as the adjacent indoor space (outdoor-rated version) for seamless continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our outdoor tiles achieve anti-slip ratings of R10 to R11 per DIN 51130 standard. R10 is suitable for covered outdoor areas and terraces. R11 is recommended for areas exposed to rain, pool surrounds, and commercial outdoor spaces. Please specify your application when ordering to ensure the correct anti-slip rating.

Yes. All tiles in our outdoor range have water absorption below 0.5%, which qualifies them as frost-resistant per ISO 10545-12. This means they can withstand repeated freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or spalling, making them suitable for use in cold climates.

Yes. Our anti-slip outdoor tiles are suitable for pool surrounds. We recommend R11 anti-slip rated tiles for pool surrounds where the surface is frequently wet. Ensure tiles are installed with appropriate waterproofing membrane and expansion joints to accommodate thermal movement.

For driveways and areas subject to vehicular traffic, we recommend our 20mm thick outdoor pavers. Standard 9mm or 12mm tiles are not suitable for vehicular loads. Our 20mm pavers are available in 600x600mm and are designed for installation on a compacted gravel or concrete base.
